Congratulations on twenty five years of helping each other to a life of happiness without gambling in your life or family.
서로서로 도우면서 여러분의 생활 속에서 또는 가정 안에서 도박을 하지 않고 행복한 삶을 영위한 단도박모임 25주년을 축하합니다.

It is basically through trying to help each other that God helps each of us.
근본적으로 위대한 힘이 우리 한 사람 한사람을 도와준 것은 바로 우리가 서로 서로 도움을 주려고 애써 노력하는 과정을 통해서입니다.

For many years before I joined GA in Omaha, Nebraska in 1978, I tried many ways to stop gambling, and daily prayed to God to help me to stop gambling.
나는 1978년 네브라스카 오마하에서 처음 단도박모임에 참석하기 전 수년 동안에 걸쳐 도박을 끊기 위해 여러 가지 많은 방법을 강구해 보고 매일 매일 하느님에게 도박을 끊을 수 있도록 도와달라고 기도했습니다.

It was only after we started GA and Gam Anon in Korea in 1984 that I was able to stop gambling and live the happy, normal life that God wants me to live.
우리가 1984년 한국에서 단도박모임과 단도박가족모임을 시작하고 나서야 비로소 나는 도박을 끊을 수 있었고 하느님께서 원하시는 행복하고 정상적인 삶을 영위할 수 있었습니다.

Gambling was a terrible addiction for me from the time I first gambled when I was four years old, matching pennies with my father. Maybe it was even from the time I was born, because I think that many addicted gamblers are born with the sickness. I think it is sometimes basically a physical problem as well as an emotional problem.
4살 때 아버지와 동전 맞추기를 하며 처음 도박을 했을 때부터 나에게는 도박은 끔직한 중독이었습니다. 아마도 내가 태어났을 때부터 그랬을지도 모릅니다. 왜냐하면 많은 도박중독자들이 이 병을 가지고 태어나기 때문입니다. 나는 이것이 때로는 정신적인 문제일 뿐만이 아니라 근본적으로 신체적인 문제라고 생각합니다.

I have not gambled for almost twenty four years. It was very difficult to stop gambling. But for many years I never have any more big temptations to gamble. This is due to God’s help, the GA twelve step program and the weekly meetings.
나는 그동안 거의 24년 동안 도박을 하지 않았습니다. 도박을 끊는 것은 매우 어려운 일이었습니다. 그렇지만 오랜 세월동안 나는 결코 더 이상 도박을 하고 싶은 커다란 유혹을 받은 적이 없습니다. 이것은 위대한 힘, 12단계 회복프로그램과 매주 회합의 덕분입니다.

The most important part of the program is the first step of recovery that says we are powerless to stop gambling, whether we are winning or losing.
회복프로그램 중에 가장 중요한 부문은 첫 번째 단계입니다. 즉 우리는 이기든 지든 도박에 관해 무력하다는 것입니다.

We must learn to accept this step 100%. If a person accepts it only 99%, he or she will soon think that winning much money would be a good thing and the temptation will be too strong and gambling will follow.
우리는 이 단계를 완전히 인정하는 법을 배워야 합니다. 만약 누군가가 그것을 99%만을 인정한다면 그 사람이 남자건 여자건 곧 돈을 많이 따는 것은 좋은 일이라고 생각할 것이고 그 유혹은 지나치게 강해져 결국 도박을 하게 될 것이다.

An addicted gambler must realize that winning a great amount of money is a bad thing because he is powerless to stop no matter how much money is won. In a short time all the money and happiness is completely lost again.
도박중독자는 많은 돈을 따는 것이 나쁜 일임을 깨달아야 합니다. 왜냐하면 그가 아무리 많은 돈을 딴다고 하더라도 도박을 끊는 데에는 무기력하기 때문이다. 곧 모든 돈과 행복을 다시 잃어버리게 된다.

So, again, congratulations to all in GA and Gam Anon in Korea. I hope to meet all of you at the big celebration on June 13 and 14, 2009
그래서 다시 한 번 한국의 모든 단도박모임 그리고 단도박가족모임의 협심자들을 축하하고 2009년 6월 13일 그리고 14일에 열리는 축하행사에서 여러분 모두를 만나 뵙기를 희망합니다.
